The number of babies born in South Korea in September was down two.two percent from the same month last year.
According to Statistics Korea, the number of newborns was 23,566 the lowest figure for any September since figures were first compiled in 1981.
The number of births has been dipping on-year for 58 consecutive months.
South Korea also recorded more deaths than births for the 11th straight month.
The number of marriages remained low, falling by three percent from a year earlier amid the coronavirus pandemic.
