Amid concerns over the surging number of COVID-19 cases in the metropolitan area, there are large scale demonstrations taking place here in Seoul today.
This comes despite efforts from Seoul Metropolitan City and the Police to contain the spread of the virus by ordering the prohibition of large gatherings.
Around 4-thousand people gathered for a demonstration arranged by a former opposition party lawmaker in the early afternoon in downtown Seoul, Gwanghwamun Square.
The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions also held a demonstration around this area with more than 2-thousand participants.
To prevent any clashes, the Police have dispatched around 90 squadrons totalling 6-thousand officers to downtown Seoul.
