President Moon Jae-in has ordered thorough preparations for South Korea to adopt a system to support employment.
The Blue House quotes Moon as saying that it's a meaningful development during this job market shock.
The system will provide job training for those in the low-income bracket, for young people and the self-employed, while providing financial support for those who are willing to work but haven't been able to find a job.
A bill passed the National Assembly earlier this week that will enable the system to take effect from next January.
Moon also called for cooperation from the incoming parliament to expand employment insurance coverage.
