S. Korea's intel agency denies rumors that Kim Jong-un is in poor health Updated: 2020-05-06 13:42:49 KST

South Korea's National Intelligence Service said today that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un did not undergo surgery, as he is rumored to have done, and that speculation about his being ill is not true.
Officials from the NIS were speaking today in a parliamentary committee meeting behind closed doors.
According to a lawmaker who was present, they said that during his 20-day absence from the public eye, Kim Jong-un continued in his usual role, focusing on COVID-19 quarantine and the North Korean economy.
Regarding COVID-19 in North Korea, the NIS said that despite Pyeongyang continuing to say it has no cases of the disease, they cannot rule out the possibility that it does, since there had been person-to-person contact with China until late January before the North closed its border.
