S. Korea's first weather satellite Cheollian Satellite 1 ends its mission on April 1 Updated: 2020-03-30 05:56:11 KST

South Korea's first weather satellite Cheollian Satellite 1 will officially end its weather-monitoring mission at 8:59 a.m., Korea time, on April 1st, after being in orbit since 2010.
The Korea Meteorological Administration said Sunday that Cheollian Satellite 2A, which was launched in late 2018, will replace it for the next decade.
It also explained the success rate of the Chellioan Satellite 1 was around 98 percent.
Despite ending its weather-monitoring role, the satellite will continue to observe the marine ecosystem around the Korean Peninsula.
