COVID-19 not yet 'pandemic': WHO chief Updated: 2020-02-25 16:40:00 KST

The head of the World Health Organization says that although COVID-19 has the potential to become a global pandemic, it's not one yet according to the WHO's criteria.
In a daily briefing on Monday, Doctor Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said if the WHO decides to use the word 'pandemic,' it'll be based on an ongoing assessment of the geographical spread of the virus, the severity of disease it causes and its impact.
The misuse of the word 'pandemic,' he said, would only cause panic.
The WHO chief also expressed concern over the rise in the number of cases in South Korea, Italy and Iran.
