31 new COVID-19 patients confirmed in S. Korea Updated: 2020-02-20 10:02:29 KST

The number of coronavirus cases here in South Korea has now jumped to 82.
This morning, the country confirmed 31 new cases.

So Yoo, where are we seeing all these new cases?

Jiyoon, 30 out of 31 newly confirmed cases were from Daegu and the neighboring Gyeongsangbuk-do Province in the southeast of the country.
23 cases in Daegu and 7 in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province to be exact.
Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced on Thursday that out of these 30 patients, 23 of them are linked to the Shincheonji Church of Jesus - which was visited by the country's 31st confirmed patient.
Two of the other confirmed cases in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province are two men in their 50s who, according to health officials, caught the virus at Cheongdo Daenam hospital.
Health authorities are still trying to figure out how the other five people caught the virus.
Now the total number of coronavirus cases in these two regions alone has reached 48.
With most new cases confirmed in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do province, Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday that community-based transmission has started and that it is in its early stage.
So starting from today, people who have not been abroad recently but show symptoms of the coronavirus can also get tested.
If they are diagnosed with any type of unidentified pneumonia, they will also be isolated in one-person hospital rooms.

And the other new case was confirmed in Seoul.
What do we know about this patient?

This patient was diagnosed with the coronavirus in a clinic in Jongno-gu District in downtown Seoul.
The clinic is just a few hundred meters from a kindergarten for the government complex in Seoul.
And a person from this kindergarten had been in the clinic on the same day as the patient.
Health authorities advice people to avoid visiting hospitals unless necessary.
Those that have a cold but no fever should stay home to avoid cross-infection from visiting hospitals.
