South Korea has retaken ownership of Joseon Dynasty-era royal seals thanks to a donation from a U.S.-based Korean resident.
The Cultural Heritage Administration said Wednesday that the Daegunjubo , crafted in 1882 and used by King Gojong as well as the Hyojong Eobo, or the Royal Seal of Hyojong made in 1750 were returned.
The return of the former is of particular sentimental value as the seal was used to stamp diplomatic and administrative documents at the time when Korea was fending off aggressive imperialist powers.
A special exhibition will open Thursday at the National Palace Museum of Korea in Seoul.
The seals will be on display through March 8th.
