The Senate of the U.S. state of Maryland has adopted a resolution marking 100 years since the death of a Korean independence activist who fought against Japan's colonial rule.
The resolution was passed on January 13th on Korean-American Day.
It says the Senate offers its sincerest congratulations to Yu Gwan-sun, adding her sacrifice serves as an important example in the ongoing struggle for freedom and democracy.
Yu was 16 years old when she led an independence rally in her hometown of Cheonan in 1919.
She died in prison the following year after being tortured.
