Maryland Senate adopts resolution marking 100 years since death of Yu Gwan-sun Updated: 2020-01-22 16:46:30 KST

The Senate of the U.S. State of Maryland has adopted a resolution marking 100 years since the death of Korean independence activist Yu Gwan-sun who fought against Japan's colonial rule.
The resolution was passed on Korean American Day on January 13th.
It says the Senate offers its sincerest congratulations to Yu and that her sacrifice serves as an important example in the ongoing struggle for freedom and democracy.
Yu was 16 years old when she led an independence rally in her hometown of Cheonan in 1919.
She died in prison the following year after suffering from severe torture.
