The number of South Korean tourists to Japan last month plunged by more than 80 percent from a year earlier.
That's according to travel agency Hana Tour, despite December being a popular month for vacations.
The regional instability in Hong Kong and China also led to more than a 44 percent drop in South Korean tourists going there.
However, a markedly different trend is seen in Southeast Asia.
The number of South Koreans that went to Thailand and Myanmar in December jumped 68 percent and 62 percent, respectively.
