'1+1 plan' to compensate victims of wartime forced labor unacceptable for Japan: Official Updated: 2019-12-04 13:29:38 KST

A high-ranking Japanese official is saying it would be difficult to accept any plan under which Japanese companies would voluntarily pay compensation to the Korean victims of Japan's wartime forced labor.
The comments were made Tuesday by Takizaki Shigeki, a top official on Asian affairs in reference to the so-called 'one-plus-one plan', under which South Korean and Japanese firms would create a joint fund to compensate the victims.
The plan, he said, is unacceptable and would not be feasible.
He added that such a plan would not correct any violation of international law.
