S. Korea's transport ministry announces new territorial plan for 2020-2040 Updated: 2019-12-03 16:39:10 KST

The South Korean government has come up with a new regional plan in preparation for the country's population to start shrinking, which is expected to happen in the next few years because of the low birthrate.
The land ministry announced today its fifth 'Comprehensive National Territorial Plan' for the next two decades.
Because there'll be fewer people, who will need less space, the plan will restruture roads to make cities more compact with better transportation.
Green spaces will also be expanded as much as possible.
The ministry also plans to build an X-shaped high-speed transportation network across the nation, by connecting disjointed roads and railways.
This will connect the whole country within a two-hour range and the metropolitan area within half an hour.
