Nat'l Assembly speaker Moon Hee-sang suggests creating a joint fund with Japan to compensate wartime victims Updated: 2019-11-06 03:50:28 KST

South Korea's National Assembly Speaker held a special lecture on Tuesday at Japan's (wha-say-dah) Waseda University where he touched upon various bilateral issues.
He proposed the two countries combine voluntary efforts, involving citizens and companies to fund the compensation of wartime forced laborers.
The speaker also suggested the use of a 5.2 million U.S. dollar fund that's left over from the money Japan provided to South Korea's Reconciliation and Healing Foundation in 2015 to compensate victims of Japan's wartime atrocities.
He emphasized that South Korea's National Assembly will work to realize such ideas through legislative efforts, while urging Japan to take part.
