KAERI invents special robot that detects and adsorbs radioactive Cesium Updated: 2019-06-19 16:15:01 KST

Amid concerns over the safe disposal of radioactive wastewater after the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster, Korean researchers have invented a special robot that's capable of removing Cesium from the water.
The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute said on Wednesday that they invented a small underwater robot just 7 micrometers long, that can detect and adsorb cesium from wastewater.
Cesium is a radioactive substance that's difficult to dispose and is hazardous to human health.
The institute plans to conduct additional research in the hopes of commercializing the technology by 2023.
