EU urges S. Korea to ratify International Labor Organization agreements Updated: 2019-04-09 16:23:57 KST

EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom has again urged South Korea to sign on to the core conventions of the International Labor Organization -- a goal Seoul had agreed to pursue in its FTA with the EU.
During her meeting with Korea's labor minister, Lee Jae-kap, in Seoul today, Malmstrom urged Seoul to ratify and fully implement the ILO agreements, which include freedom of association and ban discrimination in employment.
She also threatened to review whether a delay in ratification constitutes a violation of the FTA.
Lee said the government is working on the issue, adding that a related bill is pending in parliament.
