The word of the year for 2021 is "NFT" an abbreviation of "non-fungible token."
Making the announcement on Wednesday, Collins Dictionary said that usage of the word "NFT", which refers to a unique digital certificate registered on a blockchain showing ownership of an asset, had increased 11-thousand percent from the year before.
Other candidates for the "word of the year" were "crypto" short for cryptocurrency, "double-vaxxed" and "hybrid working."
NFTs are also a hot topic in South Korea, as Hybe, the agency behind K-pop stars BTS said they plan to create NFT photocards that can be traded virtually.
