Imports of food items into North Korea rose more than 40 percent last month from the previous month, accounting for one-fifth of the country's imports.
According to Chinese customs data released this week, North Korea imported over $11 million US dollars worth of food items from China in the month of September alone. This is an increase of 44 percent from $7.9 million dollars in August.
Food ingredients and seasonings accounted for more than half of the total food items, which also included items like milk, coffee, tea, and powdered milk.
