Israel has reported its first case of a subtype of the Delta variant, known as AY 4.2.
The country on Tuesday discovered this sub-strain from an 11-year old Israeli who returned from Moldova.
The next day, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett met with top health officials to discuss whether AY 4.2 is more virulent than the Delta variant which has pushed the country to administer booster shots.
AY 4.2 has been spreading in parts of Europe particularly the UK where it accounted for around 6 percent of all cases as of late September.
But, it hasn't been proven yet to be more transmissible than other strains or to impact the efficacy of vaccines.
