South Korea's first vice foreign minister Choi Jong-kun held phone talks with his new Iranian counterpart on Wednesday, as part of efforts to restore the Iranian nuclear deal.
According to the foreign ministry, during talks Choi said Seoul will provide diplomatic support to resume negotiations regarding the "Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action."
The deal is aimed at curbing Iran's nuclear program that has remained stalled since June.
In response, Iran's vice foreign minister Ali Bagheri Kani requested Seoul to resolve the issue of Iranian funds frozen at South Korean banks because of U.S. sanctions.
