The Trump administration plans to soon end a deal that enables Chinese firms to be listed in the U.S. by in theory allowing the U.S. authorities to access documents from Chinese auditors.
In practice, however, according to the U.S. agency in charge of it, access to those documents is not being granted by the Chinese side.
The State Department says the matter is a national security issue because it puts American shareholders at risk.
One of the larger Chinese firms listed in the U.S. is Alibaba.
Talk of revoking the deal could be a sign of a more direct crackdown on Chinese firms.
