North Korea vows to never back down in boosting what it calls "self-defense" measures, claiming it's necessaryto protect the regime's dignity and national sovereignty.
The North's state media released Pyeongyang's latest statement on Saturday in response to the G7 leaders' call on thereclusive state to abandon its nuclear and missile programs in a complete, verifiable, and irreversible manner.
The director-general of the international organizations department at the North's foreign ministry, Jo Chol-su, argued that the regime's steps to strengthen its military capabilities are a "reasonable and legitimate exercise of the right to self-defense" to shield its interests from Washington's threats.
