Updated: 2021-10-17 09:47:10 KST
The United States' Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines will be visiting South Korea for three days starting today for talks on North Korea policy.
She's expected to meet on Monday with the head of South Korea's National Intelligence Service, Park Jie-won, and also visit the Yongsan Garrison, a U.S. military base in central Seoul.
A government source here said Saturday that the two will also be meeting with Japan's intelligence chief early in the week behind closed doors.
The talks between those three will likely focus on issues related to North Korea, in light of President Moon Jae-in's push to formally declare an end to the Korean War, and Seoul and Washington's efforts to bring Pyeongyang back to the negotiation table.
