Delta coronavirus wave might be the last major wave of infection: former U.S. FDA commissioner

The current wave of infections caused by the Delta variant may be the last major spread of COVID-19 says a former U.S. FDA commissioner.
Dr. Scott Gottlieb told CNN Thursday that this is assuming no unexpected circumstances occur including the appearance of a variant that pierces through immunity achieved through vaccination or getting the virus.
But that doesn't mean the end of COVID-19 as he added the virus will be more persistent with a risk of becoming endemic.
In addition, he said vaccination rates will have to go up to form a "backstop" against another wave like the current one as the U.S.'s inoculation participation rate is relatively low.
