Let's now turn to a medical expert for a more in-depth diagnosis on the current issues surrounding the latest on COVID-19.
For this we have Dr. Alice Tan, Internist at MizMedi Women's Hospital via Skype.
Dr. Tan, thank you for joining us.
We're back from a long Chuseok holiday here in South Korea.
But with many people traveling, concerns have been raised over a potential hike in new infections.
In fact, the highest daily caseload for Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays was recorded over the holidays.
How do you expect the situation to unfold?
Like you said, there are concerns over a rise in new infections following the holidays.
But previously, the government planned to ease COVID-19 restrictions after October when 70 percent of the population gets fully vaccinated.
First, can you remind us about the current vaccination rate and do you think we could reach the goal by the end of October?
Now given the current situation, do you think it would be okay/safe to ease COVID-19 restrictions by the time we reach that goal?
What do we have to worry about? (ex. hospital beds? etc)
Breakthrough infections are also on the rise, with nearly 6,000 cases having been reported in the country.
This means around 40 people out of 100 thousand who've been fully vaccinated got infected with COVID-19.
Why are we seeing such an increase and what can vaccination guarantee us?
Alright, its time for us to wrap up our discussion for this week, this was Dr. Alice Tan of MizMedi Women's Hospital.
Dr. Tan, thank you so much for your wonderful insights, we will see you again next week.
