S. Korea, Iran to set up working group on humanitarian trade
Updated: 2020-08-02 14:14:35 KST
South Korea and Iran have agreed to launch a working group on humanitarian trade as a way of building a partnership that's within the limits of U.S. sanctions.
Seoul has been looking to send Iran coronavirus test kits, flu vaccines and other essential medicine.
A source tells Seoul-based Yonhap News Agency that the agreement on the working group was reached in talks this past week, and that the group will likely hold its first meeting next month.
The source says that Iran has expressed interest in buying several hundred million dollars' worth of products.
This would also help settle the issue of Iran's assets frozen in South Korean banks because of U.S. sanctions.
