On this edition of PerformArts M, we're going to watch the full performance of the piece "The Banquet" by the National Dance Company of Korea with choreographer Jo Heung-dong and stage director Jung Ku-ho.
Jo Heung-dong is the permanent choreogprapher and artistic director of the National Dance Company of Korea and a certified dancer of Taepyeongmu (Dance of Piece), Korea's Important Intangible Cultural Heritage No.92. Jung Ku-ho is a renowned fashion designer who offers his magical, creative touch to various outlets of the creative world. Together, they produced the traditional performance "The Banquet."
"The Banquet" is comprised of the four seasons: 4 acts and 12 pieces. Spring starts with refined royal court dance, while summer wishes for prosperity with dance for religious rituals. Then the piece welcomes autumn, the season of the harvest, with Korean folk dance and ends with Taepyeongmu, signifying winter. As if living up to its title "The Banquet," the piece provides an extravagant feast of Korean dance on one stage.
