Along with the COVID-19 spread, there’s been growing demand for online contents. And it has led to the growth of the animation market. HAPPYUP was established by professional animation makers, including CEO Kim Ji-young, who produced “Pororo,” which is one of the major Korean animation series. The company produced “Comi and Bebe” jointly with EBS, by getting an investment from the U.S. for the first time in Korea. Unlike 3D animations that provide artificial feelings, “Comi and Bebe” provides unique emotional graphics which look like the 2D artworks of the picture book come to life. Lion forge, a publishing company in the U.S. invested for the production of “Comi and Bebe.” Also, it was published in the U.S. as a picture book for toddlers. And it will be broadcast on EBS before the end of 2020. We explore HAPPYUP, which has entered the U.S. market for the first time as a Korean TV animation producer.
