The paradigm for waste management used to be summarized to “3R,” which refers to Reducing, Reusing and Recycling. And the concept has expanded to “4R,” along with the rise of “Recovering,” which considers waste as a type of resource. Conscious fashion is one of the latest trends taking place in the fashion industry. It refers to the production or consumption of clothing that is manufactured based on eco-friendly and ethical methods. And a company has recently garnered a lot of attention by producing clothing with plastic waste. More than 65% of fabrics used for clothing are materials that are produced with plastic bottles. Such eco-friendly manufacturing process can vitalize the circulation of resources. And it can bring about positive economic effects as well. A domestic research team has developed a technology that can produce fuels by making use of various waste materials including discarded furniture and bark of trees produced after the processing of wood. And a new type of microorganism, that can produce highly concentrated biofuel by using woody biomass, has been developed. Moreover, production of biofuel with waste materials is expected to create additional values for the fuel for automobiles. And a new technology that can collect highly concentrated phosphorus from sewage sludge within a short period of time, has been developed for the first time in the domestic field. A domestic research team has developed an ultrasonic extractor that can collect phosphorus, which depends entirely on imports. And the collected phosphorus can be used as a significant resource. We introduce “4R” paradigm for waste management, which will create resources and energy with waste materials as well as promote circulation of resources more effectively.
Along with the development of autonomous driving technology, AI-based image recognition technology has also garnered a lot of attention. AI-based image recognition is a technology that enables AI to recognize objects and understand the situation. The technology has recently been introduced to different fields including medical sector, and it has brought about changes to the society as well as people’s daily lives. Marking hundreds of dots is the initial stage of the AI-based image recognition. The related technology has continuously developed and it can now recognize the hand gestures as well as the sophisticated movements of joints. AI technology for image recognition has recently evolved into a skill that can even read emotions of users. A domestic health center has introduced an AI technology for the analysis of X-ray images. In the past, about a day was consumed to review the X-ray images. However, an AI technology can automatically detect a body part with suspicion of disease within about 20 seconds. After the initial analysis which is done by AI, doctors check the result again and make a diagnosis. The employment market is another field that has actively introduced AI-based image recognition technology. When a user films a video with a smart phone, eight different elements including face expressions, voice and eyes are analyzed. And a solution is provided as well. We look into AI technology for image recognition, which can even read people’s emotions aside from objects and situations.
VR technology has been applied to a wide range of industrial areas. And in 2020, the government has unveiled its plan to foster contents and support the innovative growth of the related industries. Also, the technology has recently been applied to the medical and health care sectors. And they are used for the rehabilitation, prevention of dementia and medical training. Along with the application of VR technology to the medical sector, it has become possible to prevent dementia by making use of VR. Various sensible elements can be trained, including concentration of attention, memory and responses of reflex nerves. And it is expected to be widely applied to the field of special education. Also, the VR industry for the prevention of dementia will be continuously expanded. Moreover, VR contents that provide dissection simulations for education have been newly introduced. Based on the advice from professors from medical schools as well as professional VR technologies, the operating room, which can provide dissection experiences, has been realized. Therefore, students can experience the surgical procedure in advance. And even the general public can learn specialized knowledge. A lot of researches have proven the effect of VR rehabilitation programs. Therefore, VR contents for rehabilitation have grabbed a lot of attention of stroke victims and patients who need rehabilitation. When applying an optimal rehabilitation training program to a patient, the result can be analyzed and a consultation service can be provided as well. Therefore, it is expected to bring about a significant change to the field of rehabilitation training. We explore medical VR contents, which have brought about significant changes to the existing medical systems and treatment methods as well as provided more effective treatments to patients.
