Pyongchang Peace Forun, hosted to celebrate the first anniversary of the success of Pyongchang Winter Olympics, has brought together global leaders who are promoting the cause of peace in all corners of the world. Of many Nobel laureates in attendance, one personbrings a particularly interesting life story – the former President of Poland Lech Walesa was the first person to have gone from being a worker to a Nobel laureate. Born to a carpenter, Walesa began his working life as a shipyard worker under the then Communist regime in Poland. There he formed a workers’ union to represent the rights of fellow workers; in return, he faced his share of trouble with the government. Later, the labor movement under his leadership went on to achieve a change of power and saw Walesa elected as the president.
As the Korean peninsula strives to overcome division and confrontation to achieve reconciliation and prosperity through peace, the INNERVIEW meets the former Polish President Lech Walesa to hear his advice for peace in the Korean peninsula and the world.
