World Environment Report: Diplomat Talks on Climate Change – 14
Ecuador is made up of a variety of different terrains, including the Pacific coast, Andes highlands, Amazon jungle, and Galapagos Islands. Located right on the equator, Ecuador is a treasure trove of nature and diverse lifeforms. But all of it is under threat due to climate change that is only getting worse day by day. The glaciers in the Andes have disappeared drastically and the rare flora and fauna of the Galapagos are at the brink of extinction due to increasing sea temperatures. In order to deal with such urgent crises, Ecuador started taking bold steps in 2008 to protect the ecosystem, including guaranteeing the rights of nature in its Constitution, for the first time in the world. This week, we'll meet with the Chief of the Diplomatic Mission of Ecuador in Korea, Johnny D. REINOSO-VÁSQUEZ, to hear all about Ecuador's efforts to fight climate change.
