Germany’s Race For Energy Transition

World Environment Report: Diplomat Talks on Climate Change – 13
In June this year, Germany announced its plans to be carbon neutral by 2045. The goal was unveiled in the amendment of the Climate Change Act, which solidified a clearer action plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This amendment was even more significant as it was driven by the youth of Germany and environmental organizations filing a petition to the Federal Constitutional Court against the existing law. The law was deemed partially unconstitutional as it did not sufficiently protect future generations from the harms of climate change. This week, we’ll meet with the Ambassador of Germany to S. Korea, Michael Reiffenstuel, to hear about Germany’s coal and nuclear phase-out plan as well as all its efforts being made to transition into renewable energy.
