World Environment Report: Diplomat Talks on Climate Change - 8
Tropical jungles, savannahs, coasts, and high-altitudes, Guatemala has it all. With the advanced agriculture of its rich land, Guatemala is the 10th largest coffee producer in the world, as well as a world exporter of sugar, bananas, and all ranges of spices. But with climate abnormalities, rainfall has heavily decreased, impacting agricultural production. This impacts the livelihood of farmers and it is predicted the situation would only get worse. In order to deal with the direct impact of climate change, Guatemala is utilizing its geographical strengths to actively develop renewable energy to reduce carbon emissions, and also taking active measures to collaborate with the international society so climate actions can be taken equally by all countries. This week, we'll meet with the Ambassador of Guatemala to S. Korea, Marco Tulio Chicas Sosa, to hear about how Guatemala is transitioning into a clean energy society.
