World Environment Report: Diplomat Talks on Climate Change - 6
Sweden is at the forefront of dealing with the climate crisis with its rigorous climate policies. As a witness to the environmental impact from the industrialization in the 60s, Sweden became one of the first countries to lead global cooperation. Based on the idea that came from Sweden, the UN Conference on the Human Environment was held in Stockholm in 1972 and Sweden has been continuing to take action to fight climate change ever since. In 2015, the Swedish gov't declared the "Climate Policy Framework" that stated their goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045. It includes details on the “new climate goals” and "Climate Act" that inspects the political efforts as well as on launching the Swedish Climate Policy Council to carry out an independent assessment of the progress. This week, we'll meet with the Swedish Ambassador to S. Korea, Jakob Hallgren, to hear more about Sweden's ceaseless efforts to take climate action.
