World Environment Report: Diplomat Talks on Climate Change - 5
New Zealand is world-renowned for its wondrous natural heritage. But right now it’s under the threat of climate change. Every year, there are abnormalities in weather, more ecosystems are being damaged, and more animals and plants are getting endangered. Diverse abnormal phenomena such as sea levels rising and the South Isalnd’s glaciers melting are threatening the lives of people, animals, and nature. In order to deal with such dangers, the New Zealand gov’t is pulling out all its cards. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern declared a “climate emergency” last December and unveiled plans to achieve carbon neutrality in the public sector by 2025 and the whole nation by 2050. This week, we’ll meet with the Ambassador of New Zealand to S. Korea, Philip Turner, to talk about how New Zealand is leading climate action so all forms of life can continue to coexist on this planet.
