Qatar’s vision for a sustainable society and "sustainable" World Cup

World Environment Report: Diplomat Talks on Climate Change - 4
Despite its abundant resources in LNG and oil, Qatar is doing its utmost best to deal with the climate issue and reduce its carbon emissions. It is taking bold actions to fight climate change, including its plans to build the biggest carbon storage facility in the Middle East to capture the carbon produced in the process of extracting LNG, as well as its plans to switch all public transport to electric ones by 2030. Another move that stands out is its plans to hold a “sustainable” FIFA World Cup 2022 to be held in Qatar. Much research and experimentation is underway to make all 8 World Cup stadiums use electricity from renewable energy. Another novel and innovative sustainability plan is to make one of these stadiums possible to disintegrate after the event so it could be used for parts elsewhere. This week we’ll meet with the Ambassador of Qatar to S. Korea, Mohammed Hassan Al-Haiki, to hear all about what Qatar is doing to be a part of the global movement to take climate action.
