Over 30% of Korea's total population has received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. It has achieved its initial vaccination goal for the first half of this year (13 mil.) ahead of schedule, and has become one of the top 20 countries in the world with the highest vaccination rate. Among OECD member-states, in particular, Korea is one of the leading countries with large-scale vaccination rollout. Its fast vaccination speed is also garnering attention by global media outlets. We take a closer look at what made this possible and the tasks that lie ahead.
The COVAX Facility is an international initiative for pooled procurement and equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines. South Korea is also receiving parts of its vaccine supply from the global initiative. And President Moon Jae-in, while attnding the G7 summit earlier this month, has announced a pledge of 200 million U.S. dollars to the COVAX Facility by next year. On top of this, individuals are also donating to the initiative.
