FIGHTING IN THE 1ST UN TROOPS’ BATTLE IN KOREAN WAR
GENERAL YOON SEUNG-KOOK

At Jukmiryeong hill, located in Osan, there is a monument commemorating UN troop’s first-ever battle against North Korean soldiers during the Korean War. The monument was built to honor the fallen troops of Task Force Smith, one of the advance parties to set foot on the Korean Peninsula on behalf of the United Nations. The battle of Osan provided a breakthrough for the allied forces as it delayed the rally of the North Korean troops who had already taken Seoul in just three days. We met with former Major General Yoon Seung-kook, a Korean war hero who fought with the U.S. ground troops, who told his story if the war that happened 70 years ago.

FAMILIES OF KOREAN WAR VETERANS
A 74-YEAR-OLD SON & A 68-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER

Those who sacrificed their lives for their country all had families.
Yang Tae-man, who was killed in action during the Korean War, has a son named Yang Suk-won. The 76-year old son works at a welfare division to support families of the soldiers that lost their lives during the war. Seo Jung-ok is a daughter of late Seo Sung-man. She is now 68 years old, and she deeply misses her father since she had never seen the face of her father.
We take this time to listen to the stories of the bereaved families left behind and remind ourselves how important it is for them to celebrate June, the month of veterans and patriots.
