How Baseball Continues in Empty Stadium - 2020 KBO League

In the time of COVID-19, stands at baseball parks in South Korea are vacant. The 2020 KBO season has kicked off behind closed doors. The league has garnered massive attention from the world since all other sports worldwide were suspended and stayed shut. The league has implemented various ideas and measures, such as contactless first pitch ceremony, virtual cheering, and real-time chat with the fans. We take a look at the changes COVID-19 has brought to the Korean baseball league.

Jeonju Int’l Film Festival opens in time of COVID-19

Nothing, including COVID-19, can come in the way of the Jeonju International Film Festival. It’s the first international festival to take place both online and offline simultaneously in the world since the emergence of COVID-19. For the past two decades, JIFF introduced countless films full of experimental endeavors and quirky imaginations. How would the films reach us during this edition? Moon Sung-kyeong, a programmer who put together the film list for the Jeonju Int’l Film Festival, walks us through about key points of this year’s event and predictions on how the film festivals will reshape in the post COVID-19 era.

Mitigating COVID-19’s Economic Impact - Public Jobs

In April 2020, the number of employed people in Korea stood at 25.56 million, 476,000 people fewer than a year ago, marking the biggest on-year decline in 21 years and 2 months. COVID-19 has triggered not only immediate job losses but also long-term quantitative and qualitative shocks to the employment market. In response, the government announced its plan to create 1.56 million jobs mostly in public sectors, hoping it would trigger the private sector to follow suit. In line with the central government, provincial and city governments, including the Goyang City Government, are also offering an array of public jobs to mitigate the economic impact of COVID-19 on citizens. Visit the Goyang City Hall to learn more about the public jobs it offers.
