Bibimbap is a Korean rice dish topped with a variety of sauteed and seasoned vegetables and meat. It’s also one of the most popular Korean foods that has gained recognition worldwide as a healthy dining option. Jeonju, the only UNESCO city of gastronomy in Korea, in Jeollabuk-do Province is considered to be the birthplace of bibimbap, hosting an annual Jeonju Bibimbap Festival every October. From “Bibim Legend,” which introduces the three origin stories of bibimbap to “Bibim Performance” where visitors get the chance to mix a huge portion of bibimbap, the festival features many interesting programs that satisfy all five senses. 1,500 Chinese people came to Gangwon-do Province to take part in a kimjang event! Kimjang refers to a Korean traditional practice of making and sharing large quantities of kimchi ahead of the cold winter months. It is also considered to have nurtured Korea’s identity, solidarity and spirit of sharing through generations.
