National Foundation Day of Korea, the Day Korean History Began

October 3 is the National Foundation of Korea that marks the legendary formation of Korea's first state of Gojoseon. Known traditionally as Gaecheonjeol, which translates to "the day sky was opened," it is one of the 5 national holidays of Korea, along with Independence Movement Day, Liberation Day, Constitution Day and Hangul Proclamation Day. Beyond merely marking the founding of Korea, the holiday has long been instilling a sense of patriotism and pride in Koreans. National Foundation Day with Rahil Ahmadova

Modern Interpretation of the Dangun Legend - "Danggol Cart Bar"

THE GWANGDAE is a Korean traditional performing arts troupe that presents original plays and performances to carry on the legacy of Korean traditional performing arts. In time for National Foundation Day, the troupe performs "Danggol Cart Bar," which interprets the legend of Dangun, the founding-father of Korea, in a modern way. In the play, Hwanung, the father of Dangun, runs a cart bar to closely observe the lives of modern-day Koreans. Take a glimpse into his cart bar with THE GWANGDAE.
