Daecheon Beach located in Boryeong, Chungcheongnam-do Province is the largest beach on the western coast of Korea, measuring 3.5km in length and 100m in width. The sand is composed of broken fragments of seashells, which is quite rare in the East. Daecheon Beach was recently opened, and in order to ensure everyone’s safety, the 119 Beach Rescue Unit, Health Center and Yeoreum (Summer) Police Station at the beach opened their doors as well. Parasols were also set up, and a special ritual called “susinje” was held to pray to the god of water to prevent any accidents at the beach. We take you to check out the preparations at Daecheon Beach for the 2019 beach season!
There are extreme food challenges for the brave and daring! There is a Japanese ramen place that offers a jumbo-sized ramen that contains four regular portions. Contestants who finish it within the time limit get to step out the door without paying a dime and have their photos up on the Wall of Fame. This gut-busting food challenge is no easy feat, with the ramen served in a bowl that measures 30cm in diameter. There is a tonkatsu (deep-fried pork cutlet) restaurant in Sindaebang-dong in Seoul that has been raising the heat with Dijinda Tonkatsu (“You-Are-Gonna-Die Pork Cutlet”). If your tongue and stomach can handle the huge piece of meat covered in super-spicy sauce, then you will be able to win a chance to dine here for free for up to 6 months! Tune in this week to learn about these crazy food challenges!
