Celebrating Spring with the Arts
The Yangjaecheon Stream in Seoul is a great place for a pleasant stroll by the water, especially when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. On display are various installation artworks including a scrumptious apple and a horse that looks alive. There is a flutist on rollerblades who delights people’s ears with an ethereal melody, and an artist who wows the spectators with incredible balancing acts that involve bottles and even a 50kg motorcycle at times. Right now, the entire waterfront area has turned into a stage for a wide range of the arts allowing artists to better communicate with the public. Transformation of Gundam Models
“Gundam,” a Japanese animation series that premiered in 1979, has a huge following worldwide. There are plastic models of the robots called “Gunpla (portmanteau of “Gundam plastic model”).” There’s a Gunpla modeler in Korea who likes to add his own spin to each model he builds, instead of following the instructions provided in the model kit. He uses pieces from the other model kits and even makes his own pieces to be attached to the model. Meet Gong Deok-su who will wow you with his creations!
Scouts Protecting Mother Earth
Scout organizations around the world foster youth into global leaders by equipping them with a wide range of knowledge and skills. One of the duties of boy and girl scouts is to protect the Earth and its natural environment. This year, a special environmental program was organized in Korea to promote awareness of the various environmental issues faced by society today, and it took place in the presence of the King of Sweden. The young scouts had a chance to gain hands-on experience and learn the ways to protect the environment. Tune in this week to check out their activities!
