'Tis the Season for Strawberries
Fresh, sweet and luscious strawberries delight the senses! In Korea, strawberries, which have been typically harvested in May, are enjoyed even in winter thanks to the development of new varieties and greenhouse production. The biggest strawberry producer in the country is Nonsan, Chungcheongnam-do Province, where the “King's Berry" has successfully been developed based on 9 years of research. We take you to the farm where they grow this giant variety of strawberries and to a strawberry dessert buffet that is a paradise for those with a sweet tooth.
Analog Aesthetics of Photography
In this day and age with high-tech smartphones and special filters, snapping a nice photo has become easy and effortless. But there is a photography studio that applies an analog technique, which is quite laborious yet results in one-of-a-kind photographs. It is tintype photography, which involves the use of an iron plate and a light-sensitive material in the wet-plate collodion process invented in 1851. Because the image is developed on a metal plate, it can last for more than a hundred years, and it creates that vintage look that makes the photograph extra special. The main camera used in the studio is an antique that is more than a hundred years old, and each part and component as well as the lens have been procured with a great deal of effort to perfectly apply the 19th century photography technique. So join us as we take you to the photo studio where they create "masterpieces" to be cherished for a lifetime.
A Trip to the Peaceful DMZ
The PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games and Winter Paralympic Games are remembered by the world as the "Peace Olympics." The joint entrance of the North and South Korean athletes at the Opening Ceremony and the joint women's ice hockey team helped pave the way toward peace, and the event led to the Panmunjom Declaration in April, Pyongyang Declaration in September, and North Korea-US Summit in June last year, with another North Korea-US Summit scheduled later this month. To commemorate the first anniversary of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, the PyeongChang Global Peace Forum 2019 was recently held. During the event period, a group of Korean college students took the DMZ Peace Train to Gangwon-do Province for a tour of the demilitarized zone (DMZ). What was the experience like for these young adults who will someday lead the efforts toward peace on the Korean peninsula? Join us as we take you along on their special journey.
