The Seoul Kimchi Festival showcases everything imaginable about Korea's signature staple kimchi and the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of kimjang, the practice of making large quantities of kimchi for the winter season. Held for three days, a total of 6,000 citizens made kimchi with 165 tons of Napa cabbage and also set a new Guinness World Record for the most people making kimchi in one place. Korea's college entrance exam, "suneung" in Korean, is one of the most important gateways to university. To say the whole academic life of a Korean student leads up to this one day would not be an overstatement. Under the theme of "Seoul Dream, Flowing Light," lanterns and lit figurines display the 600-year history of Seoul as well as its present and future.
