The world is paying attention to whether the S. Korea-Japan bilateral summit that took place on Christmas eve would help improve the ties between the two nations.
The meeting, which took place in China on the sidelines of a tripartite summit between Seoul, Beijing, and Tokyo for two days since December 23rd, came as the first summit between the leaders in 15 months since they have met on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York in last September.
The meeting had been prepared since South Korea announced to conditionally suspend termination of GSOMIA and to temporarily suspend seeking WTO complaint against Japan on November 14th.
The leaders of the two nations have shared views on the forced labor ruling, which ignited the trade dispute for the past six months, and on the possible reinstatement of GSOMIA.
It remains to be seen whether the bilateral ties could see a breakthrough following the summit between the two leaders.
