It's been 30 years since South Korea and ASEAN have established their dialogue relations, signing sectoral dialogue partnership in 1989. Over the 30 years, the two sides have upgraded their ties to full dialogue partnership and comprehensive cooperation partnership. In 2010, they agreed to form a strategic partnership. Boasting a high proportion of young population and enriched in natural resources, ASEAN is growing into one of the big markets in the world, logging an average annual growth of at least 5%, and accounting for 3.4% of the world's GDP and 7.3% of the global trade volume. South Korea and ASEAN are deepening their ties in various sectors, and the trade volume between the two sides has topped $160 billion in 2018.
Recently, South Korea has signed CEPA to strengthen its cooperation with Indonesia, the third-biggest trading nation among ASEAN members. Expectations are growing as to how South Korea and ASEAN would deepen their relations moving forward.
