Episode 73 Controversy mounting over Japan's poor management of radioactive waste

8 years have passed since nuclear reactors in Fukushima melted down in March 2011.
Japan is drawing concerns and criticism from in and around the world, as it revealed its clumsy handling of the nuclear plants, and the potential radiation threat is on the rise.
On October 12th, super typhoon Hagibis had hammered Japan and swept away several bags full of radioactive waste. Local contaminated water facility has activated leak alerts eight times. The worse news is the radioactive waste has been leaked down to the local stream, which flows into the Pacific ocean. This makes the leakage a regional problem, which Japan’s neighbors would have to pay attention to.
Although it hasn’t come up with a clear plan to clean up the leakage, Tokyo is insisting it would dump its contaminated water into the ocean.
The global community is concerned more than ever about the safety of the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. Its organizers announced to prove how safe Fukushima is by feeding the Olympians and tourists food made by produce grown in the prefecture. They also added some of the events would take place at the venues in radiation-exposed areas.
