Seoul has started to take action against Japan’s export curbs.
It decided to take off Japan from its list of trusted trading partners. On August 12th, the South Korean government announced a new plan regarding its regulation on trading nations, and downgrade Japan from its whitelist by placing it in a newly established bracket called A-2.
On September 11th, South Korea also said it would file a WTO lawsuit over Japan’s export restrictions on three strategic materials critical in chip sectors. Seoul stressed Japan’s trade measures take direct aim at its Supreme Court’s forced labor ruling, and also pointed out Tokyo violated three Articles of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade.
The bilateral tensions are heightening following Seoul’s latest measures.
We will take a deep dive on this issue with domestic and international experts.
