Amid the lengthening trade spat between South Korean and Japan, both sides’ economies are seeing some drastic changes.
The Japanese sectors are dealt with heavy blows due to the South Korean boycotts of their products. Japanese auto giant Nissan is considering withdrawing business from the Korean market. Also, the total number of South Korean travelers to Japan downed significantly last month.
Meanwhile, South Korea’s effort to ease reliance on Japanese parts and materials is gradually coming to fruition. LG Display and Samsung Electronics have recently started to replace some of the regulated Japanese parts with home-made items.
As more changes are expected to come in other industries, we will have an in-depth discussion with domestic and foreign experts on whether South Korea could use this opportunity to reshape its economic landscape.
